drWelcome to the website of the Peekskill Democratic City Committee. On our site you will find information about our local Democratic Party and the City of Peekskill.

Peekskill is a Democratic City, with registered Democrats outnumbering registered Republicans by over 2,000 voters. In the last three local elections, Democrats have defeated Republicans and gone from having no representation on the city council to now occupying 3 out of 7 seats. In 2006, Democrats swept the City, with no Republican candidate for office winning in Peekskill. We elected John Hall to the United States Congress, Andrew Cuomo as our State Attorney General, andEliot Spitzer as our Governor.

After almost two decades of complete Republican dominance, Democrats are re-energized and have created a two-party system where ideas and issues can be debated. In large part, these huge gains are a product of the fact that Democrats in Peekskill are organized and are making it clear they want a voice in local decision-making.

The Peekskill Democratic City Committee is part of the Westchester County Democratic Party and the New York State Democratic Party. We play a large role in the nomination process of candidates at all levels of government. The Peekskill Democratic City Committee is also a member of the Northern Westchester Democratic Coalition, which is an organization of all Democratic committees in Westchester that are geographically located north of I-287.

Our committee meets on the fourth Thursday of every month at the Neighborhood Center at the Field Library at 7pm. There we deal with local issues and organize ourselves to elect Democrats nationally, regionally, and locally. We also work to improve the lives of the 23,000 residents who call Peekskill their home. We are fortunate to be joined regularly by our elected officials and candidates who are currently running for office.

I urge you to join us, get active in your government, and find out more about the Peekskill Democratic City Committee. Our meetings are open to the public and we encourage public participation.

Sincerely,

Darren Rigger
