When George W. Bush ran for president in 2000 he branded himself a new kind of conservative, a so-called compassionate-conservative. It was a brilliant message. It helped marry moderate- monied Republicans to the fire breathing social-conservative species from the South.

Doctor, Mother, Businesswoman. This is the slogan that Nan Hayworth, Hudson Valley Congresswoman representing Northern Westchester, ran on when she defeated John Hall in November 2010. She made a mockery of it this week when she callously announced that she would withhold disaster aid for the Hudson Valley unless cuts could be identified elsewhere in the federal budget, to offset the increased spending.

A Reuters poll in April 2010 showed that 20% of people around the world believe Aliens walk among us. Shocking you say? Well, 22% percent of Americans believe in ghosts.
